Hi.

Hi.

My name is Gianna and I am a hairdresser. I am a damn good hairdresser, but it wasn’t always that way. I want to share my story of how I went from bathroom beautician to the face behind Gianna Sews Your Rows.

I have known that I wanted to be a hairdresser since I was about 12 years old. This is, in part, thanks to my closest friends allowing me to get ahold of their heads to “test” out my skills (cut, color, bangs – HA! MK). There wasn’t really a chair to stand behind, so let’s just say I learned ALOT behind the toilet .

Once I set up shop in the bathroom salon, I had to stock up! My go-to supply shop was CVS and my number one product was BOX color. Yep, you know the one, you look at the picture with a beautiful model and you pick out the hair color you like and that’s what it will look like, right? WRONG. Let me just tell you, I FUCKED UP A LOT OF HAIR. I used to say to myself, “oh well, that’s okay if it doesn’t look like the box, I’ll just go back to CVS and get a box of “black” hair dye and cover it ALL UP…” and that’s EXACTLY what I did!

I was 12 with a full mane of BOXED BLACK (PSA: DO NOT USE box color – AT ALL, TRUST ME).

Fast. forward, I started to pay more attention to the hair trends and the logistics of styling. I did what any “normal” fifteen-year-old does and I ditched CVS for Sally’s Beauty and upgraded my salon. After four years of practicing in my parent’s bathroom, they decided it was time for me to get my own space, so my dad refinished the basement to create “Salon Gianna”. This was the real deal: a fully installed shampoo bowl, three chairs for my customers, and tile. I HAD IT ALL (Thanks, Dad)! I can’t even count the amount of colors, cuts, up do’s, waxing and makeup applications that I did. You name it, I tried it. I experimented on myself and on MANY others.

Around the same time, I attended Shawsheen Valley Technical Vocational High School, where I was able to live out my dream for four years. I was able to graduate with a diploma and a cosmetology license. Looking back, I realize this was the best decision that I have ever made (and I was able to save my parents a BOAT LOAD of money). I was finally able to work in my trade, I was LEGIT. At this point, I decided that college wasn’t for me and I would take the time to learn more about my craft. I started at Supercuts, graduated to Hair Cosmopolitan (picture a supply store with a dumpy salon in the back room) and finally landed at my home – Lumina Salon.

At Lumina, I started out as an assistant but quickly moved onto the floor, where I spent the next eight years of my career. My mentors, Kathy Petrella and Lisa DeLeo, poured everything into me that they could. I learned it all – their skills, their techniques and much more. This was the turning point. This was when I finally came into my own as a stylist. I am forever thankful to Kathy, Lisa and each of the other stylists that I had an opportunity to watch, because I would never be where I am today without their guidance.

After mastering my craft, I decided it was time to go out on my own! I opened Revival Salon, a salon suite inside Salons by JC, in Stoneham, Massachusetts. With Revival opened, I was able to bring on my dream team: Janine and Nicole, two of my coworkers from Lumina! Things were really starting to flourish.

While aimlessly scrolling Instagram, I came across a site that had “Natural Beaded Rows” (NBR), a newer style of hair extensions that I instantly became OBSESSED with! The more research I did, the more I learned that this was the newest trend and I needed to know WHAT it was that made this method so great. I HAD to learn how to do this, whatever it took. In order to become certified, I would have to pay out of pocket and travel to Huntington Beach, California plus I would have to pay an additional $1,000 for the course. So, what did I do? I bit the bullet and made an investment in myself, my education, and my craft – and I am so glad that I did!

What I didn’t know at the time, was what Natural Beaded Rows (NBR) and Big Money Stylists (BMS) really had to offer. This was not just a hair trend. This is the future of hair! This is a community of like-minded, Hair Artists, who are turning the game upside down. It is SO much more than doing hair, behind a chair; it is an entire shift in the operation.

It all started when BMS rolled out an innovative training called Mastermind but it grew so rapidly, that they had to stop accepting students and changed up the flow (for the better) once again, and BMS University was launched! This new program is now available to hair stylists across the US. BMSU teaches you how to become a six-figure earner without having to put in six hundred hours per week, while taking on six hundred clients, per day. This training has not only taught me a work-life balance, but also how to take care of my mind, body and soul – all while allowing me to reach my fullest potential.

Remember when I said “college wasn’t for me”? Well, I was wrong. THIS is my college Mom and Dad … and here’s what I’ve learned:

1.That you MUST make sure that your own cup is full before you can pour into others

2.You don’t have to be a slave.

3.LOVE YOUR LIFE.

4.Be open minded.

5.Create your own lifestyle and be sure to enjoy it!

So that’s it, that’s my story. From Bathroom Beautician to Sewing ALL THE ROWS…

Become the best YOU. Fall. Get back up. Learn from your mistakes. Learn from your success. Be strong and willing. Grateful for this life.
